Food For Work

We provides grain to the farmers as an incentive for the work, such as levelling of their land, building check dams, creating embankments in their fields etc.

The provision of grain as an incentive to work benefits the people in two ways. Firstly, land productivity increases, and secondly people are able to work from their own homes. The distribution usually occurs during the months of April and May when stored grain from the previous season is running low and the harvest is not yet ready. This provides timely relief from the seasonal grain shortages.

Each year, @ 250 tons of grain is distributed to over 50 villages. The grain is distributed by our workers and distributed on the basis of work done. This day of distribution creates a festive atmosphere in the villages.
